Chrysler Group has trademarked a name and badge for the 3.0-liter diesel engine it will offer next year in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and other vehicles.

Chrysler filed an application last month with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office for the name EcoDiesel 3.0L and an accompanying badge.

The engine, produced by Fiat-owned VM Motori S.p.A., will debut in the Grand Cherokee for the 2014 model year. The diesel produces 241 hp and 406 pounds-feet of torque as configured in Europe.

Chrysler has declined to comment about its diesel plans other than to say the Grand Cherokee would get a diesel variant. The company has also been spotted testing the engine in the Ram 1500 pickup.
