Chrysler is mum on whether it will offer a fuel-saving diesel engine in the 2013 Ram 1500, scheduled for showrooms this fall.
But a spy photographer snapped a white Ram 1500 pickup in the Detroit area with a tantalizing clue. Just above the white Ram's exhaust tip is a black speckled stain, the kind that comes from particulates released by diesel engines.
Thus, someone is testing a Ram 1500 powered by a diesel, an option not currently available in the Ram line below its Heavy Duty lineup.
A Chrysler spokesman acknowledged that the company is "looking at putting a diesel in a light-duty pickup."
He declined to comment further.
