What will Ford's next Mustang look like? The Wall Street Journal, citing insiders, says the 2014 makeover will retain the Mustang's shark-nosed grille and round headlights but will look more like the redesigned Ford Fusion.

Some who have seen the car say it will closely resemble the Evos concept shown in September at the Frankfurt auto show, the Journal reported. The Fusion's design is based on the Evos.

The new look will be part of a bid to connect with Generation Y shoppers, according to the Journal.

Last year U.S. Mustang sales fell 4 percent to 70,438 units. That's down from more than 166,000 units in 2006, a year after Ford introduced retro styling that harkened back to the original mid-1960s Mustang.

In the first quarter, Ford sold 20,133 Mustangs, up 31 percent from the first quarter of 2011 but almost 2,000 units below sales of its archrival, the Chevrolet Camaro.
