George Richard Grubbs dead at 82

DALLAS -- George Richard Grubbs, a retired auto dealer, died April 2. He was 82.

He started his automotive career selling used cars and later opened a Volkswagen dealership in Roswell, N.M. In the late 1960s he bought a larger VW dealership in Waco, Texas.

Grubbs’ sons joined the business, and the family expanded to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, first opening a Datsun dealership in Bedford, Texas, in 1976.

Over the years, the Grubbs family has sold many brands, including Volkswagen, Porsche, Nissan, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda. Today family members own Grubbs Nissan in Bedford and Grubbs Infiniti in Euless, Texas.

George Richard Grubbs retired in 2005.
