What's the hottest vehicle brand in America? Nashville-based Dataium's Auto Shopper Intensity index, which predicts retail sales by measuring online shopping activity, suggests it is Nissan.
Dataium tracks more than 5,000 dealership and factory Web sites. It says upticks in online research typically translate into higher purchases 30 to 45 days down the road.
In February, for the second month in a row, Nissan recorded the highest intensity ranking among all makes, Dataium says. Toyota was next, and Ford ranked third.
Dataium says luxury manufacturers took a hit in February, with several brands -- including Lincoln, Jaguar, and Lexus -- near the bottom of the intensity rankings.
As for individual models, the Toyota Camry jumped two spots from January to be the most-shopped new vehicle. The Nissan Altima, January's highest-ranked new vehicle, fell to the No. 3 position, and the Toyota Prius was second.
