Land Rover says it will decide whether to build a Range Rover Evoque convertible based on how showgoers in Geneva react to a concept version.

The soft-top spinoff of the North American Truck of the Year will debut this week at the Swiss show. The concept has a retractable roof system with a roll-over protection system. Land Rover is working on a way to open and close the soft top in about 12 seconds.

The show car, which keeps the Evoque's rising waistline, has been developed by Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern and his team. McGovern said there will be only minor changes if the vehicle makes it to series production.

If the convertible is confirmed, Land Rover says production will start in early 2013 in Halewood, England.
