Hyundai says it won't launch a subbrand for its luxury cars anytime soon.

Two weeks ago, Hyundai executives said they were tossing around the possibility of selling the Genesis, Equus and Genesis Coupe under a Genesis luxury subbrand through Hyundai's existing network.

But last week, Frank Ahrens, Hyundai Motor Co.'s director of global public relations, wrote in an e-mail: "Hyundai has no plans to make any type of separate brand, premium or sub."

Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik echoed the comment during an event for journalists last week in Las Vegas. He said that selling luxury and mainstream vehicles side-by-side in the same showroom helps the perception of the entire brand.
