LAS VEGAS -- Who doesn’t like winning stuff? Or getting it free when you buy a product or service that you need or were going to purchase anyway?

Electronic gadgets, gift cards, a giant toolbox, even a motorcycle are among the cool prizes up for grabs if you’re a dealer walking the exhibit floor at the NADA convention.

Giant signs at the NADA Used Car Guide booth scream that it is handing out iPad 2 tablets with a one-year subscription to its NADA Appraisal PRO used-vehicle appraisal tool. Manheim is giving away goodies such as Garmin navigation systems, Kindle Fire tablets and $200 Home Depot gift cards to winners of a game designed to showcase the attributes of its new Manheim Simulcast Everywhere auction system.

Mopar, Chrysler Group’s parts and accessories arm, is giving away huge toolboxes on wheels in daily raffles. The toolbox, which looks all of three feet high and about twice as wide, is covered in Mopar blue and black “3M gloss over laminate,” and is a $4,631 value, its sign says.

The swipe of conference badges at Compli’s booth enters attendees in a drawing for Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones. Compli, a Portland, Ore., provider of human resources and compliance management software, doesn’t offer a value for the headphones, but they run at least $200, according to several online ads for the product.

Or how about winning a 2012 Harley-Davidson V-Rod 10th Anniversary Edition, being given away by software provider DealerTrack? The price? Starts at $15,999 not including freight, according Harley’s Web site.

Turns out, winning is taking place somewhere other than just in the casinos. And who knows? The odds might be better in the exhibit hall, too.
