The top executive at AutoNation Inc., the nation's largest car dealership group, likes the 2013 Ford Fusion, unveiled last week at the Detroit auto show, very much indeed.
AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson called the Fusion "the best mid-sized sedan I've ever seen."
AutoNation owns 35 Ford dealerships nationwide, so Jackson is hardly impartial. But he wasn't alone in praising the car.
Autoweek magazine, a sibling publication of Automotive News, named it Best in Show.
"It's very rare for a mid-sized sedan to win Best in Show," said Autoweek Editor Wes Raynal. "I think it's the first of a lot of awards the Fusion is going to win this year."
Motor Trend called the new model "Ford's unquestioned star of the 2012 Detroit show," saying it "has generated an avalanche of interest and buzz for the Blue Oval, thanks to its dramatic new styling and a plethora of powertrain options including a plug-in hybrid."
The autoextremist.com blog called the Fusion "drop-dead gorgeous" and "a stunning design and content statement that left every other automaker in the mid-sized segment reeling. Suddenly the Malibu doesn't reach far enough, the Sonata seems stale and the Camry looks easily ten years old."
