I generally don't like birthdays, unless they're mine.
Similarly, I usually don't like sports cars, unless I'm driving them.
And I prefer to be driving them on twisty roads in California wine country or through some other fabulous locale.
This weekend I got my first ride in a Porsche -- as a passenger -- here in Detroit.
I mention this because Car and Driver reported that Porsche is considering adding a mid-engined car to fit in the lineup between the 911 and the 918. I was intrigued.
I don't know why I've never managed to get inside a Porsche. But I now understand what all the fuss is about.
The Porsche I rode in was a 1999 model. I don't recall which style, but let's just say it was one of the good ones. (As if there are any bad ones.)
I can see why these vehicles are so admired: comfortable, smooth, quiet and fast.
Its owner is a Porsche enthusiast who has owned at least two of them. He attests to their safety as well as their speed.
So I was eager to read today about this new possible Porsche: If produced, it'll make 600 hp and cost around $568,000.
It might be a long time before I'm in that particular Porsche.
