Chosen because: Under the guidance of Anegawa, 54, Tokyo Electric Power developed the CHAdeMO (Charge de Move) DC fast-charging 480-volt -- or Level 3 -- standard for an EV. Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy Industries also were involved in creating the standard. Any company can use the standard without paying royalties. In March 2010, aiming to promote widespread use of the standard, the automakers and Tokyo Electric Power formed the CHAdeMO Association. The association now has more than 150 member companies. A universal plug standard would allow electric vehicle manufacturers to use a common design for vehicles sold in multiple countries, which would bring huge cost savings.

Quote: "Setting up recharging facilities in key spots plays a crucial role in promoting EVs."
