ROLAND HWANG
|
Transportation program director, Natural Resources Defense Council
Chosen because: Hwang, 47, has successfully lobbied the California legislature, California Air Resources Board, 13 other states and ultimately the federal government for adoption of path-breaking vehicle greenhouse emission standards. He was a member of the technology and economic assessment group on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore for its scientific reports on global warming.
Quote: "This time it feels real," Hwang told the San Jose Mercury News in April, speaking of electric vehicles. "Automakers are serious. There's oil price shocks. The long-term trends are very positive. There will be potholes in the road as this rolls out, but there aren't any showstoppers."
