Chosen because: Lear has established a center dedicated to hybrid and electric vehicle applications at its suburban Detroit campus. That is Khan's kingdom; he is responsible for global hybrid and EV components and systems. Khan, 49, will be busy -- Lear aims for sales of hybrid and EV components and systems to account for 7 percent of its electric systems business by 2012, up from zero in 2009.

And though Lear is a relative newcomer to the EV world, it has landed some plum contracts, supplying charging systems for the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, Renault Kangoo EV and Daimler's Smart EV.

Quote: "We're already on our third generation of technology improvements and packaging improvements, and yet we're just getting ready to put the first-generation product into production. It's a very fast pace for EV technologies."
