ED KJAER
|
Director of plug-in vehicle readiness, Southern California Edison
Chosen because: Since 1999, Kjaer, 51, has spearheaded Southern California Edison's testing of electric vehicles and their effects on the electric power grid. Today, one of Kjaer's priorities is preparing the grid for the growing number of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles hitting the market. Southern California Edison also is educating the early EV adopters among its customers about ways to save energy and prepare their homes for plug-in vehicles.
Quote: "In the past, we'd run our lights and appliances, and 30 days later we'd get the electric bill with little comprehension about how we consumed the energy," Kjaer was quoted as saying in a recent paper by Ernst & Young. "Conversely, once a week we go to the gas station and fill up our cars with little control over what we pay at the pump. Now, with smarter grids and plug-in cars, you will know how you are consuming electricity and gasoline and ultimately how to control what you pay monthly for both."
