HERBERT KOHLER
|
Vice president of e-drive and future mobility, Daimler AG
Chosen because: Daimler aims to sell as many as 200,000 zero-emission cars in Europe annually by 2020, and Kohler, 54, is tasked with giving the company models to sell. Kohler says half of Daimler's $5.6 billion r&d budget in 2011 will be spent on alternative powertrains. Fuel cell vehicles will take a healthy chunk of that money, it seems. Kohler has said that fuel cell vehicles are a profitable business case. Daimler sells a Mercedes-Benz B-class fuel cell vehicle. Daimler formed an electric motor joint venture with Robert Bosch GmbH in April and plans to use those motors to begin mass production of EVs in 2012.
Quote: "By 2015, we think a fuel cell car will not cost more than a four-cylinder diesel hybrid that meets the Euro 6 emissions standard."
