Director, global electrification, Ford Motor Co.

Chosen because: Gioia was hired in 1982 as an electronics trainee and now leads Ford's electrification strategy. Gioia formerly oversaw development of Ford's hybrid and other alternative technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells. Now Gioia, 50, is responsible for all of Ford's vehicle electrification, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids and EVs. Gioia was a standout even before heading up Ford's electrification efforts. She worked on more than two dozen new-vehicle launches and was chief engineer on the 2002 Thunderbird. Before working on the T-Bird, Gioia was chief program engineer for the Louisville/Aeromax truck line.
