MITSURU HOMMA
|
Executive vice president in charge of batteries and energy business, Sanyo Electric Co.
Chosen because: Homma, 63, has made Sanyo one of the most productive suppliers of batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. After pioneering nickel-metal hydride batteries for use in hybrids by automakers such as Honda, Sanyo is rapidly investing in next-generation lithium ion technology. Its strategy: Play the field instead of linking its fate to one automaker. It has signed battery deals with Ford Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., Volkswagen AG, Audi AG, Suzuki Motor Corp. and PSA-Peugeot/Citroen SA. Homma wants Sanyo to have 40 percent of the green car battery market by 2020.
Quote: "In 2020, the market for environmentally friendly vehicles is estimated to be approximately 10 million. Sanyo will maintain its omnidirectional sales strategy for the HEV business, working to reduce costs and continually improve its technology by working with multiple customers."
