CEO, General Electric Co.
Chosen because: Immelt's pledge to purchase 25,000 EVs by 2015 was the kind of gesture required to give vehicle electrification a firm foundation in the United States. GM was the big winner -- 12,000 of those vehicles will be Chevrolet Volts. Immelt, 54, is positioning GE to benefit from electrification of the world's automotive fleet in other ways. The company is producing batteries, charging stations and smart grid systems. Immelt figures the need for more vehicle charging stations also will boost demand for GE's power-plant equipment.
