Industry sending money and supplies, matching employee donations

Here is a partial list of industry plans for contributing to relief efforts following last week's earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Some companies have also provided suggestions on how to help.

AISIN

Relief efforts: Aisin Group companies in Japan and North America donated $1.3 million to the Red Cross. Aisin employees have organized fundraisers; a task force is providing water and supplies to employees and families near the earthquake zone.

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILE DEALERS

How to help: The association is steering members to automakers' links and to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund.

BMW

Relief efforts: Pledges 1 million euros ($1.4 million), split between Save the Children and the Japanese Red Cross. The funds will be earmarked for traumatized children, emergency aid and reconstruction work.

How to help: "BMW Group employees can show their solidarity with the victims of the disaster by contributing to both these campaigns."

BORGWARNER

Relief efforts: $100,000 to the Red Cross.

How to help: The company pledges to match all employee donations.

BOSCH GROUP

Relief efforts: 1 million euros ($1.4 million) to support the work of the Japanese Red Cross. The company pledges further support as the situation unfolds.

CHRYSLER

Relief efforts: A donation of $100,000, through the Chrysler Foundation, to the American Red Cross.

How to help: Chrysler pledges to match employee and dealer contributions to the Red Cross up to an additional $100,000.

DAIMLER

Relief efforts: 2 million euros ($2.8 million) in immediate aid and a pledge for further support, possibly including materials.

DCH AUTO GROUP

Relief efforts: Donation of $20,000 to the American Red Cross.

DENSO

Relief efforts: Donation of 200 million yen ($2.4 million) in aid. Use of company buildings in Fukushima to shelter 2,000 evacuees. Providing food, blankets and other supplies.

EAGLE OTTAWA

Relief Efforts: $100,000 donation to the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund of the American Red Cross.

FORD

Relief efforts: Matching employee gifts up to $50,000

FUJI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SUBARU)

Relief efforts: $500,000 donation plus $500,000 worth of generators.

How to help: Fuji pledges to double-match employee donations up to $100,000.

GENERAL MOTORS

Relief efforts: A $500,000 contribution from the GM Foundation to the American Red Cross relief fund.

How to help: GM employees can access a direct web link from their desktop work stations to contribute directly to the Red Cross disaster fund.

GKN

Relief efforts: Donation of $250,000.

How to help: GKN employees throughout the world are raising money to support the relief effort.

HONDA

Relief efforts: 300 million yen ($3.7 million) to affected areas as well as 1,000 generators and 5,000 gas canisters. Honda staff will provide assistance on use of the equipment.

How to help: Honda will match North American employees' donations to the Red Cross. American Honda has established a Web site to accept donations from its dealers to the Red Cross: http://american.redcross.org/hondaacura-emp

HYUNDAI

Relief efforts: Donation of 100 million yen ($1.3 million) to the Korean Red Cross, to be steered to the Japanese Red Cross for the immediate purchase of blankets, food, water and other essentials

JM FAMILY ENTERPRISES

Relief efforts: $750,000 donation to the American Red Cross, including contributions from employees and Toyota dealers in the southeast U.S.

JOHNSON CONTROLS

Relief efforts: $1 million to the Japan Red Cross, via the American Red Cross.

How to help: Donations will be collected from employees.

MAGNA INTERNATIONAL

Relief efforts: Donation of $250,000 to the Japan Red Cross; fund to assist the company's 180 employees in Japan.

MAZDA

Relief efforts: 30 million yen ($375,000) to the Japanese Red Cross. Mazda Foundation (USA): $150,000 to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund.

How to help: Mazda encourages donations to the American Red Cross (redcross.org) or the Japanese Red Cross.

MITSUBISHI

Relief efforts: 30 million yen ($375,000) for victims and damaged areas in Japan. An unspecified number of vehicles will aid local authorities and meet other needs.

How to help: Mitsubishi says it's seeking "the most efficient and optimum ways" to handle offers for additional assistance.

NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION

Relief efforts: $100,000, through the NADA Charitable Foundation, to the Red Cross special Japan fund.

How to help: NADA is urging members to support the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund of the American Red Cross by going to https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?idb=0&5052.donation=form1&df_id=5052, or by sending checks to American Red Cross, Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief, PO Box 37242, Washington, DC 20013.

NISSAN

Relief efforts: Nissan Americas pledges $1 million to the American Red Cross for support in Japan. Half will be in the form of an immediate cash donation. Global contributions will top $3.75 million. That includes employee gift matching and 50 vehicles donated to support aid agencies in the affected areas.

How to help: Nissan will match up to $500,000 in online contributions from employees, retirees, dealers, suppliers, customers. Contributions can be made at http://american.redcross.org/nissan-pub

RENAULT

Relief efforts: A 500,000 euro ($701,542) donation to the Red Cross.

How to help: Renault will match contributions made by employees.

SUBARU

How to help: Subaru dealers can donate at http://american.redcross.org/subaru-emp. From now until April 1, Subaru will match donations made to this site, up to $100,000.

SUZUKI

Relief efforts: 30 million yen through the Japanese Red Cross Society.

How to help: Suzuki is recommending contributions to these organizations working on relief and recovery in the region:

American Red Cross (redcross.org); GlobalGiving (globalgiving.org) ; Save the Children (savethechildren.org); Salvation Army (www.salvationarmyusa.org); Americares (americares.org); International Medical Corps (Internaltionalmedicalcorps.org).

Suzuki also notes that the Japan Business Association of Southern California is collecting donations to The JBA Foundation that will go toward assisting victims and rebuilding efforts.

TAKATA

Relief efforts: Contribution of 100 million yen ($1.2 million), including $300,000 from U.S. subsidiary TK Holdings, directed to the Japanese Red Cross Society, American Red Cross and German Red Cross.

TI AUTOMOTIVE

Relief efforts: Initial 15,000 pounds ($24,200) to the American Red Cross.

How to help: The company will match employee donations through April 15 up to an additional $16,100.

TOYOTA

Relief efforts: 300 million yen ($3.75 million) in aid.

How to help: Toyota operations in the United States will match employees' donations to the American Red Cross.

Toyota, Lexus, and Scion dealers can give through http://american.redcross.org/toyotalexusDEALERS-emp, which will be open until April 18. Dealers should identify their dealership on the application in the "company/organization" field by listing their five-digit dealer code, followed by their dealer name.

VISTEON:

Relief efforts: $31,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Employees in Japan and China have begun fundraising campaigns.
