If you doubt that the glitz, the glamour, and the downright weirdness of auto shows has returned, check the celebrity lineup for next week’s Geneva show press days.

There’s one genuine star: Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who will appear for BMW.

Beyond that, there is a slew of local luminaries whose connection to motor vehicles is not immediately apparent.

These include Frau Joy Wetlie, described as “Weight Watchers Member of the Year” (appearing for Daihatsu); Renzo Blumenthal, Mister Switzerland of 2005 (Renault), and René Schudel of the Funky Kitchen Club (Daimler).

Mini opted for Swiss hip-hop. I did not know that there were Swiss rappers, although I guess I should have. Come to think of it, I probably should have known one would be named Stress.

But the most mystifying celebs are on Ford’s list. Appearing on behalf of the Blue Oval will be …. drum roll … Freddy Nock, tightrope walker, and David Bittner, wildlife and bear biologist.

Ought to be quite a show, although I think I’ll stand well back from the stage.
