Suppliers ready to share again

If my calendar is any guide, automotive suppliers are coming out of their bunkers.

I've received invitations to seven supplier events in June. Most are technology showcases, with a plant dedication thrown in.

Seven doesn't sound like a lot. But if you exclude supplier events tied to auto shows or the SAE World Congress, it's more than I was invited to over the previous 12 months.

I'm sure suppliers were still developing new technologies during the recession. But they stopped inviting the media in to talk about them. Maybe back then, they didn't want to be asked, "How much money did you lose last week?"

Now suppliers are ready to answer questions about technology -- or the bigger question, "How's business?"
