Finding female CEOs and presidents is getting tougher

Eight of us spent four and a half hours cloistered in a conference room the other day. Our topic was women.

We pored over several hundred nominations for Automotive News' list of 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry.

Five years ago, when we last did this, our final list included 20 women who were CEOs or presidents. This time, we have just a handful with those lofty titles.

Where have all the powerful women gone?

You can reach me at mvanders@crain.com. If you would like to nominate someone for the list of 100 Leading Women, go to www.autonews.com/nominate.
