Symbolically, Chrysler starts playing offense

gusser, how long ago did you own that Fiat? Ya know, 40 years ago Toyotas, Hondas, and Datsuns were bigger pieces of junk than they are today. Stands to reason that Fiat has improved quality substantially since the last one you owned. They must be doing something right based on the gains they've made in the EU.

If Fiat can integrate some badly needed fuel efficient cars into Chrysler's line-up, how can that be a bad thing? I guarantee the 20 and 30 somethings don't have a negative opinion of Fiats, Alfas and Lancias at all. In fact, my son came back from touring Italy with a bunch of his friends last Summer and all they could talk about is how they wish those cars were available here. Now their wish is coming true. They don't have any perspective on how door handles used to fall off 124s and you'd have to wait 8 weeks for parts. Since Fiat will be taking advantage of Chrysler's existing parts and service organizations, I don't think we'll see a repeat of that. Unlike the Daimler marriage, I think this one will benefit both countries globally.
