GM to spend $43 million on Volt battery plant

Why do so many people think GM should maintain the status quo even as the world is changing around it? GM (Lutz, specifically) has admitted the Volt will lose money for 5-6 years. The point is that they are investing in a technology that they believe may make money in the future and give them a competitive advantage. It's exactly what Toyota did with the Prius, and nobody is saying that was stupid in hindsight.
