BMW has consolidated all of its engine development on one digital software platform, software provider Dassault Systemes said. The German automaker will use CATIA V5 computer-aided design software from Dassault to design all gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines. "BMW can now streamline all its design and product development activities on a single platform that is easy to share with all its suppliers," Bruno Latchague, executive vice president at Dassault, said in a statement. BMW had been using the CATIA software to design vehicles and diesel engines, but other software for gasoline engines, said Dassault spokeswoman Nancy Lesinski. She added: "This enables the sophisticated design of cylinder head parts, for example, which BMW has mastered on its diesel engines, to be transferred and reused in the gasoline engine domain." |
