Audi of America Inc. will shine the spotlight on its redesigned A6 mid-sized sedan in a commercial to be shown during the Super Bowl on Feb. 1. The 60-second spot, called "Chase," shows actor Jason Statham -- known for his roles in the "Transporter" series, Snatch andThe Bank Job -- rushing from decade to decade to avoid capture. After trying several other luxury vehicles to aid his getaway, he settles on the supercharged A6. Audi's advertising agency, San Francisco-based Venables Bell & Partners, created the ad. Audi and Hyundai are the only automotive advertisers in this year's Super Bowl. With only a 6.1 percent U.S. sales decline last year, Audi suffered far less than most other luxury brands as well as the total U.S. market, which fell 18.0 percent. Audi's 2008 Super Bowl spot -- its first in more than 20 years -- featured the R8 sports car in a spoof of the movie The Godfather. The number of visits to the www.audiusa.com Web site nearly tripled in the months after the commercial was broadcast, Audi says. This year's Super Bowl game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals airs Feb. 1 on NBC. |
