Mercedes concept previews new CLK

At the Paris auto show in October, Mercedes-Benz will preview its third-generation CLK with a production-ready coupe-station wagon concept called the Fascination.
Created at the Mercedes design studio in Sindelfingen, Germany, under new design boss Gorden Wagener, the concept reveals sharp new styling and taut surface treatment that will appear on the front of next year's CLK. The rear wagon look indicates a design direction for other future Mercedes models.
The result is a sporty two-door wagon, or a shooting brake, as traditionalists might term it. Mercedes says it has no plans for a production version of the four-seat Fascination, but a positive response may lead them to produce the vehicle as an extension of the CLK line.
Unique to the concept are unusual new dual headlamps that will appear on the CLK as well as next year's E-class. The trapezoidal headlamps blend with a wide three-slat grille, prominent tapering and tautly drawn surfaces to give the Fascination a more aggressive air.
Underneath, the Fascination uses the same basic rear-wheel-drive underpinnings as the latest third-generation C-class, with power coming from a four-cylinder, twin-turbo diesel engine.
