Asbury to challenge verdict

Asbury Automotive Group will ask a federal judge to reduce a $19 million jury award against the public retailer and one of its former dealerships in a race-bias lawsuit, Asbury said Friday.

On Aug. 27, the jury found that four black former salesmen at Thomason Toyota in suburban Portland, Ore., had been subjected to racist remarks by managers and co-workers and were threatened with retaliation if they complained.

Asbury Vice President Allen Levenson called the verdict "outrageous."
