Kia targets Soul at urban buyers

The Kia Soul will go on sale in mainland Europe in February
Kia today unveiled pictures of its new Soul crossover car that it will debut at the Paris auto show in early October.

Kia said the Soul will go on sale in mainland Europe next February with a choice of either 126hp diesel or gasoline engines based on the engines already fitted to the Cee'd lower-medium car.

Kia describes the Soul as an "urban crossover."

Paul Philpott, head of Kia's UK operation, said the Soul's chic design and roomy interior will appeal to "active people with busy lives."

The Soul is a five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive, a high roofline and a long wheelbase.

The Soul will be manufactured at Kia's Gwangju facility in Korea starting in November.

The Soul was first shown as a concept at the Detroit auto show in 2006. Three more concepts appeared at the Geneva auto show in March.
