VW appoints new purchasing chief in Mexico

MEXICO CITY -- Rudiger Koch today becomes Volkswagen AG's purchasing director in Mexico.

Koch, 50, has been Volkswagen Group China's head of procurement since 2004.

He replaces Rafael Pinero, 59, who is returning to Germany after eight years in the job. Pinero will work at VW headquarters in Wolfsburg, a company spokesman in Mexico said.

Volkswagen's purchasing director in Mexico is responsible for procurement throughout North America.

Koch has been with VW since 1985. The engineering graduate was named Bentley's purchasing director in the United Kingdom in 1999.

Koch became director of forward sourcing for the Volkswagen Group in 2000 and head of group procurement for powertrains in 2002 before moving to China in 2004.
