VW to decide July 8 on new U.S. production site

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) -- Volkswagen's management board is set to decide July 8 on the site of its new 500 million euros ($788.2 million) production site in the United States, auto motor und sport reported, citing management sources.

The magazine said in a pre-release of an article to be published Thursday the new factory will be located either in Alabama or in Tennessee, while the state of Michigan is seen as having little chance.

It said the German carmaker's supervisory board will decide on the investment on July 15.

Production at the site is to start in 2010, with an annual capacity of 300,000 cars to be reached by 2018.
