Daimler CFO: No hostile takeover

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) -- Daimler does not need a white knight to protect itself from any hostile takeovers, CFO Bodo Uebber said in a pre-release of his interview with Die Welt newspaper.
"Daimler does not need a shareholder who will protect us," he said.
"I prefer ten opinions, each carrying a weight of two percent [of shares] than one opinion which holds 20 percent," he added. He said Daimler has nothing against any new big shareholder in principle. "We heartily welcome all investors, whether they want to take five, ten or more percent in us," he added.
The newspaper said there were rumors before that Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp. wants to take a 20 percent stake in Daimler but Uebber told the newspaper that "there is nothing" in this speculation.
