Ford prices rise $198; hike is $502 for model year

Ford Motor Co. has raised sticker prices for its domestic cars and light trucks.

Stickers of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles rose an average of $198 or 0.7 percent, an Automotive News analysis found. The bumps brought Fordís increase for the model year to date to $502 or 1.8 percent. The corresponding increase for General Motors is $646 or 2.2 percent.

Fordís boost was across the board. Every model of every brand went up except the Ford E-series van and wagon; the Lincoln Mark LT pickup, which will be dropped at the end of the current model year; and the Lincoln Town Car. Town Car production resumed this month at St. Thomas, Ontario. No Town Cars had been built since the Wixom, Mich., plant closed last spring.

By brands, the January price increases were Ford, $197; Lincoln, $253; and Mercury, $166. The corporate average is almost the same as Ford divisionís because Ford accounts for 87.4 percent of the corporationís sales. By comparison, Chevrolet has 59.4 percent of GMís domestic sales.

Most of the car increases were $235 or $240, although the Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis rose only $55.

Compact Ford Ranger pickups climbed $225, and most of the best-selling F-150 pickups jumped $175 to $325. The bump was $475 on F-150 SuperCrew Lariat King Ranch four-wheelers. The larger F-250 and F-350 pickups advanced only $60.

The largest increases were applied to a pair of SUVs ó $500 on the Ford Expedition and $675 on the Lincoln Navigator.
