The automobile franchise system we enjoy in this country has evolved over time into simply the most efficient, most effective and most competitive system imaginable for the distribution of cars and trucks. The benefit is to the consumer. The benefit is to the manufacturers. It benefits dealers. There are also benefits to the national economy.
Consumers for their part want and need a stable dealer network to facilitate the purchase and servicing of their vehicles. The manufacturers want and need a stable dealer network to display, sell and service those same vehicles.
And the states for their part, I think, want and need a stable dealer network that they can license and regulate to protect their citizens in the purchase of vehicles.
What has evolved is a system whereby consumers enjoy extraordinary intrabrand and interbrand competition, and they now have a dealer body that is focused like a laser on satisfying the expectations of those consumers.
