(The franchise system has persisted) because of the strength of the individual entrepreneur and his commitment to selling vehicles and satisfying customers and, obviously, making money. Manufacturers are not retail-oriented. We don't have retail expertise.

At Toyota, I don't think we ever think about being in the retail end of things. But the dealer has the background (and) ultimately puts his sweat equity and money into making a successful operation.
