State (franchise) laws, state regulations are always going to make it difficult for manufacturers to alter the way they do business.

I have financial partners in every deal, because it's critical that the people running the operation, that their life's in it, their blood is in it, their money's in it. Then your level of energy and effort is increased. You're not 'working for'; you are a part of the organization. You'll know that by how people talk. Once you get 'part of' vs. 'working for,' you can do amazing things.

Forget the capital and the time - the manufacturers can always go get that. It's state laws and individual ownership.
