VW Passat wagon offers more space; sales in Germany start in August

Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen dealers will be hoping for a high-volume seller when sales of the new Passat Variant wagon begin Aug. 19. Pre-sales are set to start July 3.

This sixth generation of the Variant is expected to account for 65 percent of new Passat registrations. It is priced at 22,900 euros for the 102hp, entry-level vehicle, about the same price as its predecessor.

The new Passat can store more luggage in the trunk (between 603 and 1,731 liters, compared with between 495 and 1,600 liters in its predecessor).

Its gas tank holds 70 liters, up from 62 liters, and vehicle load capacity is 638kg, up from 546kg.

Climate control, an electronic parking brake and a collapsible cargo-area floor are among the standard features.

The new Passat Variant will be produced exclusively at VW's Emden plant.
