Uwe-Michael Witzel, chairman of Germany's Renault dealer association, said he was happy that the Logan's introduction would come before new low-cost cars planned by Volkswagen, Toyota and PSA/Peugeot-Citroen.
"We like the idea of being the first to launch such a cheap car on the market," he said.
Witzel said that many of his dealer colleagues would love to put the Logan in their showrooms sooner rather than later.
However, the German Renault dealers do not even know yet who will be allowed to sell the Romanian-built Logan.
Renault's original plan was to sell the Logan only in developing and newly industrialized countries. Therefore it is not clear yet how many of the 1,450 German Renault locations will be authorized to sell the car.
Neither is it clear if the existing dealer contract will be extended to include Dacia or if there will be a separate contract for the selling of the Logan.
German sales targets for the five-door notchback sedan are cautious. The plan is to sell only 3,000 Logans a year, mainly in eastern Germany.
But Renault dealers are optimistic hat more will be sold. Witzel said some dealers had planned to buy the Logan directly in Romania and to export it to Germany on their own initiative.
"Once Renault got wind of dealers' huge interest the company decided to offer the car in Germany," said Witzel.
