Foreign exhibitors increase at Automechanika

Frankfurt. The German auto market may be slow but Automechanika has a record number of exhibitors this year with 4,504 companies showing their products and support services.

Perhaps a sign of the times, however, is that the growth reflects steady increases in the number of non-German exhibitors, while German companies' participation has been slipping for years.

However, "many of those who were not here the last few times are now back again," said show organizer Gunther Prassl. That is particularly true for small and medium-sized companies, he added.

Prassl said that new exhibitors were coming from Japan and Central Europe.

Car manufacturers have also increased their presence in Frankfurt. BMW, Fiat and Renault, none of whom were present at the show two years ago, are exhibiting this year, while six German federal states share joint exhibition stands at Automechanika to promote themselves as manufacturing locations.

Said Prassl:"The show is an opportunity for the federal states to demonstrate what an attractive location they are for domestic and foreign investors."
