Freudenberg Group plans to buy Burgmann

Wolffratshausen. Weinheim-based supplier Freudenberg and Japanese partners NOK and Eagle Industry plan to buy the Burgmann Dichtungswerke, a seal manufacturer located in Wolfratshausen near Munich.

The takeover of the private business -- the Burgmann family is the sole owner -- will be finalized by the end of March.

The Freudenberg group is particularly interested in the piston-ring-type seals, equalizers and automotive sectors. Burgmann's automobile sector is situated at the company's second location, in Eurasburg in southern Germany.

In 2002 Burgmann, who has 3,300 employees, had revenue of approximately 292 million. Its non-German share of business is 68 percent. Two years ago the seal specialist expanded its international business with subsidiaries and joint ventures in Hungary, Iran and Mexico.
