Philipp Schiemer, Smart sales and marketing director, chose the early start because he didn't want to just focus on the Forfour. His intention is to position Smart as a "multi-product brand."
"In order to get this message across we have to start early," Schiemer said.
From October 1 the new four-seater will be promoted with five different advertising campaigns in Germany and six other European countries. There will also be a cinema ad featuring the Forfour and starring Robbie Williams.
Smart has extended its sponsorship for the British pop star's European tour until the autumn and has combined it with a road show for the Forfour.
Events involving Williams have already attracted 20,000 potential buyers. "From March 2004 the Forfour will also be advertised on TV and on the radio," Schiemer said.
