Station wagon Opel Vectra Caravan to launch

Russelsheim. The new Opel Vectra Caravan will be available from mid-October with a trunk capacity of up to 1,850l. The station wagon offers more load-space capacity than the Opel Vectra Signum version, which launched in May with 1,700l. The current Opel Omega, which will be taken off the market at the production start-up of the Caravan in Ruesselsheim, only holds 1,800l. "This is the legitimate successor to the Omega Caravan," an Opel manager stated.

The new vehicle also features the "FlexOrganizer-concept", a variable system of nets and partitions that Opel says will provide the "safe and well arranged stowing away of cargo." From the start a wide range of engines will be available, from 122hp to 211hp strong. The basic price will be - as with the Signum -- approximately 23,000 euros.

According to Opel's forecast, Caravan and Signum will make up 50 percent of the Vectra sales in the medium-term, with 320,000 units per annum. The GTS fastback version is estimated to make up 35 percent and the rest will be represented by limousine sales.
