Lincoln has long presidential legacy

Lincoln has become known as the car of presidents. For decades, news photos of presidential motorcades showed the nation’s leader entering or emerging from a flag-draped Lincoln, winning prestige and valuable publicity for Ford Motor Co.’s premium brand.

Also burned on the public’s memory is a grim image: a blood-spattered President John Kennedy, fatally wounded by an assassin, collapsing into the back seat of his open-topped limousine in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
