Ford Motor Co.'s 100th anniversary matters to its employees, its shareholders, its dealers and everyone else in the automobile industry.
For me, this is the second issue commemorating a major anniversary for Ford. It doesn't seem like 25 years ago that Automotive News published a special issue for Ford's 75th, an anniversary symbolized by diamonds. On the cover we showed the Ford oval created with diamonds.
For the cover of the 100th anniversary issue, we created a poster showing the past as prologue to the future.
The fourth generation of the Ford family runs the company. Who knows how many more generations of the Ford family will be involved by the 200th anniversary?
Ford cars and trucks are known all over the world. During the past 100 years, Ford Motor Co. grew and expanded throughout the world.
Ford's history is filled with fascinating stories. Automotive News has chosen its most important stories of the Ford century. Many other stories will be told some other time and somewhere else.
Everyone at Automotive News worked hard and long on this very special issue. For many, it was a labor of love. This is one of the largest issues in Automotive News' 78-year history, and we're proud of it.
