Edsel is perhaps the most enigmatic of the Fords: Blessed by birth but stifled by a domineering father; gifted in many areas but held back from leading the company that bore his name.

The crown prince: Opportunity seemed unlimited.
 
"Be sure to do some skating if there is any ice — it is the best exercise in the world," Edsel wrote in a 1934 letter to Henry Ford II. This particular bit of exercise, however, seems destined for an unhappy ending.
