VW enforces online purchase

Wolfsburg. Volkswagen wants to communicate all construction modifications of the Passat-successor B6 (due in 2005) to suppliers exclusively by electronic means. This was the message of Martin Hofmann, responsible for procurement planning and strategy, at an industry forum in Wolfsburg.

Since May 19 modifications could be managed online. Starting August 30, requests will only be sent to suppliers who are registered on the VW plaform. "It is important to have all suppliers on board by then," Hofmann said. Those who were not may not receive anything. He confirmed VW's intention to base procurement completely on electronic means in the future. Hofmann expects "significant savings" from the new online management system.
