AutoNation leaves auto loan business

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - AutoNation Inc., the nation's largest dealership group, said Friday, Dec. 21, that it no longer would make auto loans through its captive finance company.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., company said it will continue to provide auto loans through unrelated third-party finance sources. AutoNation expects to incur an after-tax charge in the fourth quarter of $52 million because of the decision.
