Easy on oil? Think again

HOUSTON - Drivers who are tough on their cars should change their oil every 3,000 miles. But many drivers don't see themselves as "severe" drivers, says a study from Harris Interactive and Pennzoil-Quaker State Co., the parent company of Jiffy Lube International. The study showed 86 percent of 3,345 consumers surveyed initially viewed themselves as normal drivers; only 14 percent viewed themselves as "severe" drivers. But after they were given a list of severe driving habits - such as taking short trips, starting and driving without warm-up time, commuting in stop-and-go traffic, hauling heavy loads, driving in extreme heat or cold and traveling in salty coastal areas - the statistics changed dramatically: Five-five percent said they viewed themselves as severe drivers.
