Speaker brands shine in study

DETROIT - Speaker, stereo and tire makers have the brands that add the most value to a vehicle, according to The Planning Edge's 2001 Supplier Branding Study.

The Bose brand adds the most value to speakers and stereos, and Michelin was the highest-value tire brand, the study showed.

The majority of the people surveyed responded that the brands or manufacturers of seats, antilock brakes, security systems and powertrain components do not enhance a vehicle's value, said Michael Schmall, managing partner for The Planning Edge of Farmington Hills, Mich.

More than 4,100 vehicle owners participated in the survey, which asked questions about 10 components in the interiors, advanced electronics and safety categories.
