Sun sets on CarDay

NEW YORK — Online auto auction Web site CarDay.com closed last week after 17 months of operation. The company positioned franchise dealers as intermediaries between buyers and sellers. Affiliated dealers inspected, certified and warranted the vehicles and managed the sale.

The CarDay.com Web site reads: “We’re sorry to say that CarDay.com has come to the end of the road. We’re proud to have been able to provide affordable used cars for our customers during the past year and a half.”

CarDay Inc.’s founders and part owners, Hometown Auto Retailers Corp. in Watertown, Conn., declined to comment on the closing.
